IDIOT-PROOF WAYS TO MAKE YOUR WEBSITE MOBILE FRIENDLY

By now everyone knows that mobile friendly websites rank higher on Google. Still, a lot of business people are yet to make their websites mobile friendly. Already, more than half of searches originate from a mobile device, instead of a desktop or a laptop. Mobile friendly websites are easily accessible to people who are browsing the internet on their phones or who are searching using their mobile phones. For this post we are sticking to the simple stuff. We are keeping it simple stupid. Here is how to make your website mobile friendly:

Apply Responsive Design

Responsive design simply means that the website can easily be viewed from a variety of screen sizes and shapes. Today's internet user is using different devices to view content. In less developed countries, some of the screens are quite tiny. The layout and the visual components need to be adjustable. Web pages intuitively alter their layout to fit the user's screen.

Bigger is Better

A good font size is at least size 14. It may be larger depending on the type. The idea of a large font is to allow users to read the text without having to enlarge it. People are lazy. The easier it id for them to use your website, the more they will use it. If using a website requires any extra work such as enlarging the text, they will probably not spend much time on the website. When it comes to button, bigger is better because there is a lesser chance of missing it. Hitting the wrong button by mistake is very annoying.

Rely on YouTube for Videos

YouTube's content is already responsive. It adjusts itself to fit the device that the user is viewing from. This is the easiest way to make video content responsive. Using YouTube to publish videos means that you can skip several steps because YouTube is taking care of it for you.

Test

Practice using your website from multiple devices. It gives you a first hand experience with what it is like for the users. Be honest with yourself. If you don't like it, your audience probably won't like it either. Test your competitor's websites too. Need to know how well you score? Google Search Console's Mobile Friendly Test will give you a score.

Telephone Number

Display your telephone number on every page, and make it clickable. People are lazy. They are not going to copy and paste your phone number to call you. More than ninety percent of people who have mobile phones do searches on their phones. Once they open your website, you want them to follow-up their search with an inquiry. A clickable phone number takes away all the hard work and brings customers to your door step. Mobile users will find it a lot easier to make a phone call than to fill a form.

Besides phone number, all contact information should be easily accessible. Your email and address too, should appear on every page, giving your prospects an even easier time contacting you.

A Map

Speaking of door steps, one necessary part of making a website mobile friendly is adding a Pin of your exact location to Google Maps. The idea is to make it easy for prospects to find their way to your store by walking or driving. Use Google Maps integration to direct the user vis GPS. Every local business with a brick and mortar store must use maps to translate web traffic into foot traffic.
